Position Function/Purpose

Will be responsible for assisting Lead Cable Installer with installing and maintaining computer network, inter-active video, telecommunication, and fiber optic cabling and associated components and peripherals at campuses within the District.  Also, PC troubleshooting and hardware/software installations.

 

Major Responsibilities  

  1. Responsible for the completion of all work orders and projects as assigned by the Technology Project Manager
  2. Work with other departmental technicians on installation of wiring concerning networks and troubleshooting/configuring PCs.
  3. Communicate with campus personnel on scheduling of work to provide for minimal classroom disturbance.
  4. Report on status of assignments and projects to Technology Project manager and Director of Infrastructure and Data Operations.
  5. Installation, mounting, and configuration of Televisions/Projectors/interactive boards/speaker systems, etc. into school facilities.
  6. All other duties as assigned by Technology Project manager, IT Customer Service Coordinator, Network Administrator, or Executive Director of Technology.

Qualification Requirements

         Minimum Certification/Education:

         1.  High School Diploma or GED

         2.  Valid Texas Driver's License

 

         Special Knowledge/ Skills:

  1. Knowledge of wiring techniques including the installation of conduit and fiber duct for cabling purposes.
  2. Familiar with electrical code to provide for proper installation of network cabling in existing and new facilities.
  3. Knowledge or experience with electronic trouble-shooting procedures in regards to verifying integrity of wiring.  Familiar with electronic test equipment i.e. VOM, tracers, etc.
  4. Able to distinguish between various colors. 

        Minimum Experience:

  1. Prior experience in electronic / network /telecommunications cable installation.
  2. 2 years computer repair  and troubleshooting.

  1. Heavy lifting and carrying, 45 lbs. on a regular basis and 100 lbs. on a limited basis
  2. Reaching above shoulders
  3. Use of fingers, arms and legs
  4. Repeated bending
  5. Heights up to 50 ft.
  6. Working in small confined spaces  

Regular attendance required.

         4.  Punch-down tools i.e. RJ-45 crimpers, etc.

         5.  MISD motor vehicles i.e. van, pickup, etc.

         6.  Power & manually operated personnel lift

         7.  Electronic test equipment, VOM, etc.

         8.  Ladders, platforms, scaffolds

         9.  Respirators and other safety equipment
